Pony on Gelligaer Common, South Wales, Wales.
The ponies live in herds, in their own area of the Common.
Many belong to Commoners who have grazing rights.
Sadly, many other ponies have no owners, having been DUMPED there. Rescue organisations have to put feed and hay out for them.Also , homes have to be found for them. , if possible. The dumped ponies are darted with contraceptives, to stop them breeding. However many are dumped on the common, already in foal.
The ponies all are in fairly good condition, usually as the common is vast-about 7,000 acres.Any ponies in poor condition are removed and housed in sheltered accomodation.
I love walking here as the landscape is bleak but inspiring.
