Festooned with flowers, these young Wurttembergers are probably photographed in Stuttgart before entraining for France in 1914. The regiment would see action in the Battle of Frontiers and the Race to the Sea. Subsequently, they were heavily involved in the Serbian invasion, the Somme in 1916, Arras 1917 and then were transferred to Italy for the Caporetto Offensive. They would be sent back to France for the 1918 Spring Offensive and end the war in France. Few of these smiling faces would have been around to see November 1918.
