Late winter turning into early spring....and the sunlight, despite the wind, was inviting people and pigeons to sit outside.
Several residents were walking briskly across the Piazza, bundled up against the cold breeze, going about their everyday business in their own city. I love all the patterns in this photo ... people patterns, pigeon patterns, arcade patterns, curtains, lamps, columns, windows...a seemingly endlessly busy scene yet held together by classic rhythms: happily organized to create a comfortable environment that has been enjoyed for centuries -- like a huge outdoor living room for countless residents and visitors. Napoleon apparently considered it the 'drawing room of Europe'.
