After winter's rains, the redwood forests feel so full of life! The sorrel on the forest floor, the spicy smell of redwood bark, leaves, mushrooms, moss, ferns....and the rich moist earth nourish the senses and clear the mind. It's a special moment, too, when the late afternoon sunlight pours in for a few minutes, adding a magical glow to the scene. Often the Northern California redwoods are shrouded in shade by their giant height, or by coastal fog, but not the day I happened to be there. For a few moments the forest was golden.
