User / Rita Crane Photography / Rita Crane Photography: Golden Gate Bridge in Fog II, San Francisco, California

Veils of fog were hovering in and out between the Pacific and the San Francisco Bay. This is the wonderful marine layer that moves inland and out to sea, hovering along the U.S. west coast, depending on how hot it is inland. It nourishes life along the coast, including the giant redwoods, during California's dry summers. Hopefully we'll continue to see this despite the changing climate. As it gets hotter inland, we'll see plenty of this protective cooling fog, or so I hope.
