the crocuses on my front yard are starting to bloom now.

The fact that I still am able to appreciate the simple beauty of nature gives me renewed hope for life in the future.

This past Monday, I took my first walk past my immediate backyard in almost a year.

I left for the shore last spring and was gone all summer long.
I could never have dreamed of the circumstances that would bring me back to the farm so abruptly, or how my life would be changed forever..
Several times over the past couple of months, it has been suggested to me that I should pick up the camera and go do the "thing you love to do".
To everyone else I guess it only made sense that photography would be a good distraction, not understanding that I was finding it difficult enough to just focus on my life moving forward without Larry, much less trying to focus on anything through a camera lens.
With the exception of the kids, and a few shots of the cats, my camera's memory card has little to show for the past 1/2 year.
The cold and wet or snowy weather hasn't helped either. It is a huge factor for keeping me inside. I seem to have little tolerance of the cold these days.
Monday the sun was out and all you needed was a light jacket
The "urge" finally hit me, so I grabbed my camera and headed off to the fields out back to see what was going on with the wildlife and also see if I even remembered how to take a decent shot after all this time.
Except for a lone woodpecker, there didn't seem to be a bird around.
However, there was a herd of probably 30+ deer out in the one field. So I sat on a log at the edge of the field to watch them.
I was focused on the deer.
LOL...the deer focused on me!
I was in the moment.
I wasn't thinking about anything else. It was just me and the deer
It was a good. I felt at peace in the moment.

one small doe was braver than the rest and came in closer to where I was sitting with my camera, so she could get an identifying whiff.
