By our third full day in Punta Cana I was beginning to get a feel for some of the wildlife who called the resort home. I was particularly excited to discover a pair of American Kestrels, a species that I have found very difficult to photograph in the past. Here in Ontario they normally are seen perched on power lines and fly off almost immediately if you slow your vehicle down to take a photo. In Punta Cana it was certainly different.

This particular morning I spotted both the male and female perched on the uppermost spike of separate palm trees. I took the opportunity to photograph them. The shooting angle was very steep because I wanted some closeup shots but only had my Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 +2x teleconverter.

I started with the male and then moved over to the female. Neither bird was doing much however shortly after I started taking pictures of the female she changed her posture. They next thing I knew the male arrived and I was able to capture a whole series of images of this intimate moment.
