My father was in the KNIL from the age of 20-28. He was born in Soerabaya in 1922. The KNIL was the Koninlijk Nederlands Indisch Leger - the Royal Dutch East Indies Army.

My father passed away recently, on February 21, 2014,in Victorville, California. It was his and my mother's 64th wedding anniversary.

My father was very proud of this bridge and would often look at the photographs. He called this "de Meesterwerk van de 2de Genie" -
(the masterpiece of the second army unit)
