The little brown bird zooms past us. We are laughing yet grounded by the beauty. This is one of the few swallows we might catch perched.

I must say this is almost a bird-less area possibly due to the Raptor Program at Terranea. A team of expert Falconers have persuaded the gulls to go elsewhere. And probably a lot of other birds too. A bit about the CAGN: "They are insectivores and feed on arthropods found in the vegetation of the sage scrub. They require large areas of sage scrub to maintain their diet. They prefer open growth which has has been burned about 8 to 9 years before, and avoid older, denser stands of sage scrub."blueplanetbiomes.

"Bushtits may also be the cutest birds out there- Their social mannerisms and tendency to seek warmth from their friends mean that they like to snuggle. Plus, they are tiny and fluffy. " Sarah Sloane

"When we train ourselves to listen to the birds with every synapse of our brains (or so it may seem), when we 'lose our mind' and 'come to our senses' in the fullest possible way, the chattering, texting, e-mailing, twittering mind will eventually quiet down and almost silence itself. This is a sacred and connected silence, and within this zone we can choose to turn on the conscious throughts or leave them off. It's like a deep, still pond reflecting the stars of the night sky. I believe this is the baseline for human consciousness, and I'm convinced that the birds are the best mentors in the natural world for bringing us to it."
