Long Tailed Duck coming in for a landing.
The Snow melt in Barrow creates many freshwater ponds that are ankle to chest deep.
One of my favorite methods is finding a string of these ponds together then glass it for awhile to understand where the birds are feeding, resting and hanging out, Learn there habits..
Then go ahead and ease into the water, Often allot of the wildlife pushes out but a few remain, Those that remain, gain there trust and slowly ease into position.
Being in the water puts the birds at ease, Your profile is much smaller and the fact that your in the water where danger does not typically approach is key. Its almost as if you become accepted.
If your willing to spend the time and remain in the water for periods of time, Much of the wildlife there returns to there normal behavior offering endless photo opportunities Like this Long Tailed Duck flying in and dropping in rite in front of us.
