Photo collage of my first spotting of a Wood Carder Bee in my garden. Fascinating to watch this bee as she gathers fuzz from gazania leaves in my garden. She carries the fuzz around then gathers it into a ball on her abdomen then flies it all back to her nest.
According to the UC-Davis entomology website, "The wool carder bee is so named because the female collects or cards plant hairs from leaves for her brood nest, which she constructs in convenient cavities such as old beetle holes and hollow stems."

Although this is shot is kind of goofy it is real. The bee is carrying the fuzz in her front legs as she flies to another leaf. When she has gathered more fuzz she then carries it on her abdomen.

If you enlarge the photo you will clearly see the leaf fuzz she is carrying.
