A locomotive engineer will soon see this exact view, hopefully by 2026! The Roseville Tunnel on the Lackawanna Cuttoff is still going through a revitalization process as part of the Lackawanna Cutoff restoration project. This photo was taken shortly before the heavy machinery was moved in to being the clearing and blasting process. Marker flags can be seen attached to trees throughout and above the cut, showing what is soon to be no more. Never again will the cut be filled with flourishing overgrown trees and long forgotten railroad ties, but hard steel rail and modern railroad appliances. Currently, the trees in and along the cut and old roadbed have been removed, the cut slightly widened, and the tunnel has been shortened.
