Icebergs and iceberg remnants from the world's largest iceberg, A23a, have been floating toward and by the South Atlantic island of South Georgia on a route known as iceberg alley. This was a fairly common scene we saw for the three days we spent cruising in South Georgia waters.

While on a zodiac cruise along the coast of Gold Harbor, South Georgia, we saw a leopard seal pop up repeatedly from the water. Here this aggressive seal could have his pick of prey in the bay as it is home to thousands of King Penguins, many Gentoo Penguins, Fur Seals and a host of flying sea birds.

While at first glance this iceberg may appear to have broken off from the glacier in the background, it actually is one of the many remnants of the world's largest iceberg, A23a, moving on past the South Atlantic island of South Georgia and its stark wind swept mountains.

A blazing tropical African sunset tinted the sea. Meanwhile, a swell broke the uniformity of the scene.

Flying fish may be fairly common but they are extremely fast and explode out of the water like a missile glide or skim over the water for a bit and in a wink they are gone. I have only been able to see then a few times. This one left a trail from a bouncy sea entrance. We saw this one along with many others on a blustery day in the Atlantic Ocean about 10ยบ N latitude south of Cape Verde.

Magnify to see it better..
