A hummingbird that lives from Guatemala down to Ecuador. This is another hummingbird that I found only at Pico Bonito, which is not to say this is the only place in Honduras to find this bird. However...funny how hummingbird species cluster in one location and dominate.

He was easy to find there, but I took a couple days to get the perched shot I was hoping for. This particular shot was taken from a boardwalk with people passing by while I was feeling like an obstacle with a camera. Oh well...Pico Bonito Lodge is one of the top birding destination in that country, so those people might do with the experience of observing people observing birds. Maybe seeing this will turn them on to hitherto invisible birds that surround them.

This full-sized hummingbird can be found in various parts of Central America as well as upper South America. I only found this species in one of spot in Honduras--Pico Bonito in the east of that country. Funny how a particular hummingbird will dominate in a particular area.

I'm not sure how this bird gained the moniker 'Jacobin' instead of the simpler White-necked Hummingbird. Students of history will remember, though, that the Jacobins were radicals that sprang up following the French Revolution and formed the Reign of Terror along with Robespierre.

The White-necked Jacobin has a reputation as a brawler and a bully that will aggressively chase off other hummingbirds, even female WNJ's. The female of this species will even form the appearance of the males to protect itself from aggression.

This little tropical finch can be found in tropical of Central America as well as the northwestern corner of South America where it feeds on fruits and insects.

Another resident of Central America. I found myself hearing various Euphonia for the first several days in Honduras, but I couldn't lay eyes on them because of being in tight forests with tall trees. However, Pico Bonito's open yard area changed that.

This small finch favors fruiting trees near tropical forests where they associate with other euphonia.

I had hoped to capture more woodpeckers in Honduras; however I only captured two out of my eight targets. Yet I have no complaints. I am happy to take what I get.

The PBWP's range is throughout Central America, and yet I only saw one. I was hoping to photograph this bird simply because of its white bill as this is as close as I'll ever get to an ivory bill :)
