I found this murrelet about forty-five minutes off the coast of Homer, Alaska. He was mixed in with Common Murres and some Marbled Murrelets. He was floating about with the fish he had caught, so the captain cut the engine and we bobbed in the water as I kneeled down to shoot across the surface of the water.

This is the easiest of the four murrelets to find off the coast of Southeast Alaska because they frequently come close to shore. They are not always on the water surface for long as they will dive in a second under water to catch small fish.

This bird lives on the West Coast from San Diego north to the entire west coast of Alaska. I found this adult on Gull Island just off the coast of Homer, AK. In the summer of 2019, Gull Island was inhabited by mostly Common Murres, but a few other species like the Horned and Tufted Puffins, the Pigeon Guillemot along with some Surf Birds and Black Turnstones also made this giant rock in the water their home.

I found this pair of Tufted Puffins near Gull Island off the coast of Homer. A few. days prior, I hired a boat to take me out to look for puffins when I was in Seward. I wasn't as pleased as I would've like to have been with those results, so I thought I would have another go. I like this image because I can see both the front and rear of this charming bird. And, yes, I love his facial expression. I wonder if the other puffin is smirking or rolling his eyes.

This is one of the shots I did like from my Seward Boat tour. This tour was very foggy, although the fog cleared a bit inside this cove about 30 minutes from the harbor. This shot was pure luck as the boat was bobbing up and down a couple of feet. At 10 fps, I managed to snap a keeper.
