Spring has arrived, and here are the phlox longifolia to prove it. This, along with yellow arrowhead balsam root, were in abundance along the basalt cliffs and among the sage brush. The buckwheat and parsley are still to come, as are the yellow bells and death camas.

I don't photograph a lot of flowers, or at least not very often. But in spring, I nearly can't resist it. First, it's hard to fuck up a photo of a flower - especially a bunch of flowers, like this one. The focus isn't even all that important. Just get *something* in focus and you're fine.

There's nothing amazing about this photo, nor was there supposed to be. It's just my way of saying, "hey, look, it's finally spring!"

Curiously, the name "phlox" comes from the Greek via Latin - it's a word for "flame". I believe it comes from the same root as "conflagration," but I can't find anything certain about that. It does seem to be the same root as "effulgent."

I think I got the Ansco Color Clipper about ten years ago. I haven't "seriously" shot with it in a few years, but I brought it along with me this past weekend.

I'll probably shoot more with it this season. I'm not really sure of its purpose just yet, but I'll find one. Or I won't, and that's fine too.

This was taken in the early morning inside Yakima Canyon. I also shot a similar scene with the RB67, but it didn't work out so well.

With spring bounding upon us, let this serve as a reminder that the roads that receive no winter maintenance (aka - Summer Roads) can still be pretty treacherous, especially when muddy.

And even more important, remember that it's a dick move to leave huge ruts in the mud on these local roads (unless you really need to be there). These roads are used by farmers and locals to get shit done. Huge ruts are a pain in the ass.

When death shall close these eyelids
And this heart shall cease to beat
And they lay me down to rest
In some flowery bound retreat

Perhaps you'll plant a flower
On my poor, unworthy grave
Come and sit along beside me
When the roses nod and wave

One sweet thought my soul shall cherish
When this fleeting life has flown
This sweet thought will cheer when dying
Will you miss me when I'm gone?

When these lips shall never more
Press a kiss upon thy brow
But lie cold and still in death
Will you love me then as now?

Will you miss me when I'm gone?

-A.P. Carter
