Bearings stuck by magic magnetism.

I inherited this magnet along with the contents of several grandfathers’ workshops. It must be older than I am. I think it's not wearing as well though, except, perhaps first thing in the morning when we’re about equal ;) . I loved the textures and colours of the peeling paint.

I rotated the image to provide a bit more visual interest, an excuse to smile, and to remind us of magnetism’s gravity-defying antics.

A happy accident in some early trial shots showed that this lens can make rather pretty stars if the light is right and the aperture really small so I went back and took some more...

This image is for the week’s Macro Monday group theme Stick. The magnet and bearings together measure just over two inches so we are within the group’s guideline even including the space on the right. Yey!

[Tripod mount; delayed shutter, VR off; LED torch lighting very close and to the side; black cloth background. In LR altered colour temperature for a more blue cast to contrast with the red paint; rotated, flipped and cropped to size with a wide format. Vibrance and clarity raised to bring out the paint textures; a bit of playing with the individual colour ranges to add interest. Topaz Detail for most of the sharpening. In Photo a bit of clarity and Unsharp Mask, sharpening the magnet and the bearings but not the stars, using a layer mask.]

As before this is a two-capture in-camera multiple exposure of ICMs. It’s a tourist vessel moored at a jetty in Koukounaries Port on the island of Skiathos in Greece.

I thought I would have another go with one of these and see what the textures were like. I don’t think this is as good a result as the last attempt, but there are some interesting things going on in the textures, especially the water.

This is for Donnerstagsmonochrom today. It’s converted in Nik Silver Efex with some light toning.

Unfortunately, I am still rather enjoying messing around with the artly effects you can get with in-camera multiple exposures. This is another of my experiments.

The is a two-image MEx of a fishing boat moored at a jetty in the little port at Koukanaries on the island of Skiathos in Greece, though the result is so abstract it could conceivably be anything anywhere. The images were both moving camera ones: a vertical swipe and a horizontal one, respectively. The camera merged them using the Darken blend method.

This version has been tweaked a bit in Nik Color Efex, mainly to warm it up, but there are glows, soft focus and blur vignettes going on too. I’ll link to a plain-edit version in the first comment, which you may prefer.

For playtime this week I took four ICMs that were merged in-camera using Lighten blend and indulged with a bit of slider extremity. The usual stuff with lots of sharpening and saturation and then I let Nik Color Efex out of its kennel to add a Bicolor filter, after all you can't have too much colour...

The ICMs were all taken in the same hotel corridor just walking down it with the shutter open (or at least I think so - it's a bit difficult to work out and I was trying various approaches). The four images were each made by rotating the camera to a different quadrant. I’ll post all four and the in-camera combination in the first comment so you can see.

It seems that this year I haven’t really strayed much from exploring ICMs combined with multiple exposures in the camera. This is another one.

It’s three ICM exposures superimposed in the camera using the Darken blend option. Then I zapped the colours and titivated it a bit because that’s fun too.

The captures were all of the same subject - a very long hotel corridor with two purple stripes on the carpet. I just took the ICMs walking down the corridor, first straight and then tilted either side by thirty degrees so some of the stripes lined up.

I was glad the corridor was quiet, and there weren’t any security cameras otherwise I suspect that my friends in their white jackets and their little white van would have turned up to take me away... again.
