Did you know?

Phalaropes are birds where the roles and plumages in the sexes are reversed. For example, the females are the ones that are more colourful, brighter and they will display and fight for a male mate. The duller looking males will incubate the eggs layed by the female and will look after the young on his own whilst the females will go off and find another male to mate with.

Eventually, some females will lay a clutch to raise themselves once they have got all the available males occupied.
