Lovely evening with Mayflies dancing in the sky all around me at Conigre Mead nature Reserve.
If you never seen a Mayfly dance spectacle there is still time. Mayflies flap like mad and climb vertically to about 7 metres high and then freefall by floating down with wings wide open to arrest their descent rate to around 2 metres just above my head before starting the cycle again. There were Mayflies all around me!
As the ambient air temperature dropped the Mayflies took up residence in their chosen leaf or wild flower stem. It was time to find a Mayfly perched high on a stem so that I could get a low angle directed towards the sun through the defused light of the trees.
With small movements of the camera, I could adjust the density of the leaves to get the correct balanced exposure. Not too difficult with a mirrorless camera with an electronic viewfinder.
With a bit of luck and some planning you can have a fantastic evening and achieve what you set out to capture.
