Castelvecchio & Ponte Scaligero, Verona
My second early morning shoot in Verona from the banks of the Adige. The sunrise hadn't materialised again with the sky changing through its customary dark to vivid blue that my camera seems to capture whenever I make the effort for an early shoot. Having moved locations throughout the morning I decided to venture down to the river bank for a last few frames. Throughout my shoot this solitary fisherman had been gathering bait and was now fly-fishing. I gesticulated if I could take a few shots of him and he noddingly obliged.

Second view point of the Ponte Scaligero, this time from the opposite side of the bridge and down on the river bed. My friend, the fisherman can be seen through the first arch gathering bait I assume. Taken about 15 minutes earlier than my first posting as the blue hour starts to fade.

Taken from the pathway on the north side of the River Adige near the Giardini Pubblici Arsenale. The sky was such a vivid blue, but featureless, that I thought the tree cover could would help fill in the shot.

Not posted a square one for some time and my panos have messed up my photostream as I see it on my screen so this is by way of addressing the balance. This was taken way before my previous posting and would have been even earlier but for the cock-up in getting there. I had left the hotel (Mrs R sensibly fast asleep) about 5:15am for the short walk to the Castelvecchio only to find the main gate locked! The only way to get to the other side is head up the main road and cross further up river over the Ponte della Vittoria and back down the other side.
I'd planned to take my first shot with the bridge on the left which meant crossing the opening... since it was closed and the lights still on I decided to take the opportunity and shoot a people free bridge. No sooner had I setup my tripod, a runner, cyclist and early commuter came across the bridge... I now know there is a second gate (not connected with the castle) that is permanently open - a little more research and planning needed next time!!!
