Last shot from Sooke Potholes - a Red-breasted Sapsucker pauses on the thick and deeply grooved bark of a tall Douglas Fir. These woodpeckers really do lap up sap after drilling holes in trees. I've seen countless drill marks, but have rarely caught one in the act. Got lucky one fine day!
Tomorrow, another regional park that I used to visit regularly during my west coast years...
