Another wild wave from early this winter. Again, so many of these waves have strange shapes, but some always resemble something else. What do you see in this one?

And now for something a bit different!

When the wind really howls, this particular spot tends to get some pretty crazy wave action. The shoreline seems to funnel waves into each other so they crash, making these incredible exploding waves. While the water looks rough, out of nowhere you’ll see an explosion of water and sand headed straight up, only to be caught by the wind, and blown away like it was never there. It’s really shocking to see up close, and it was real, real windy when I was there a few months back. Gusts over 100kmph!

But what makes it extra interesting to me, is that sometimes the waves and wind almost seem to form faces, or animals, or creatures of some sort. Going through the series of images after shooting is very much like looking at ink blots - maybe what I see in the wave says something about what’s going on in my head!

Here's one of the waves that really caught my attention

This was a pretty wild afternoon of shooting with a friend from early 2023. These incredible clouds just lingered over the lake and mountain for ages, and when they finally took on colour, the scene almost seemed to split into two by the peak of the mountain, cold on one hot on the other. Neat!

Here's a little flash back to last winter as winter seems to have come and gone without me even noticing here! This was a happy surprise when the clouds pulled away and revealed a shrouded face in the distance. Neat!

Once in a while I do get lucky with photography. Hamilton has so many waterfalls that I stumbled on this waterfall scene while looking for a totally different waterfall scene! When I realised I was losing the light, I decided to stick around and work with this scene, and I’m glad I did! I eventually did find the other scene I was looking for and it wasn’t what I was expecting anyway. Sometimes mistakes are good things!
