every spring I search for a fox den....this female is raising five kits, typically the male assists however I've yet to see him show up which leads me to think he may have been killed.

Sandhills are hunted in several states so they are somewhat wary...in Nebraska they are protected however you'll often see an alert 'sentry' bird as they feed among the fields....
