This medieval fortified castle is a unique example of Spanish-Flemish architecture from the Renaissance. The castle was rebuilt in 1595 and is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium.

Ooidonk Castle was the residence of the lords of Nevele since 1387.
By marriage in the 15th century it came into the hands of the dukes of Montmorency.

Ooidonk was involved in numerous social conflicts and the religious wars of the 16th century. The twice destroyed castle was rebuilt by the Antwerp dignitary Maarten della Faille, who had the castle decorated according to the taste and spirit of the Renaissance and gave it a residential character.

In 1864, the castle and its grounds were purchased by Senator Henri 't Kint de Roodenbeke - the later president of the Senate (1892-1899) and Minister of State - and his wife Zoé de Naeyer. It is still inhabited by a descendant of Henri 't Kint de Roodenbeke.
