I have been slacking off on my Strangers project, so I decided to go out and shoot a portrait on a cold winter day. As you can see I decided to stay underground!

Kaiti was walking by with her headphones on during an early Saturday evening in the West 4th street subway station. I am always hesitant to approach people wearing headphones. She didn't make me feel like a jackass when I approached her and asked for her portrait. She was a great subject and willing to hang out for a few flashes of my on-camera strobe. I tried to throw some direction at her but she wouldn't change her expression. I asked her if she was about to start a big Saturday night she laughed and said “No”. I showed her a few shots on the back of my LCD screen and of course I told her she looked great. She surprisingly didn't ask for my contact info. Katie thought I was trying to spend the rest of my Saturday night with her.

I initially went out on a mission to shoot in a subway station that was under construction. The platform is super skinny at the 63rd & Lexington Ave station. I setup my camera and flash and at the last minute I decided to bail out because it didn't feel right. The shot above isn't the shot I initially envisioned before I went out on my journey today, but I am glad that I adapted to the circumstances.

The Rogue Flashbender really saved me in this lighting setup. It also helped out to try a couple of different comps before firing away on this one. Also, can't wait to eventually get a new camera body.
